英文的读后感篇1

"great expectations" has been considered to be one of charles dickens’ most mature and relatively late works. having experienced a wealth of human life, dickens got a profound understanding of human-being, the surrounding environment and his life experiences while all his mature thinking and understanding were summarized into the book "great expectations". the original meaning of the work’s title in fact is a heritage, but when it was translated into chinese it gave me an impression that the title shows the hero of the story had great expectations. however, reading over the book i realized that this "great expectations" takes an ironic band——it should be said that the theme of this work not only told the story of orphan pip who wanted to be the ideal first-class disillusionment. if one does think so, he holds a wrong understanding of the great significance why dickens creative the work. the hero pip lived with his sister’s family. though their life was hard, pip didn’t wish to be a first-class person his vision was to be a blacksmith like his brother-in-law, his sister’s husband. the reason why he changed his mind and was eager to be a first-class person later was the changing of environment——he met miss harvisham, estella and some other complex people. as we know one of dickenss philosophy thoughts is environment takes a deep impact to humans’ ideological and the story expresses his view that different environment creates different people. in short, i think the work was not arbitrarily written, but was based on the 10 works before aggregating dickens’ thoughts. what is more, dickens had put his outlook on life, his views of philosophy and ethics into the great creation.

the story is pided into three phases of pips life expectations. the first "expectation" is allotted 19 chapters, and the other two 20 chapters each in the 59-chapter work. in some editions, the chapter numbering reverts to chapter one in each expectation, but the original publication and most modern editions number the chapters consecutively from one to 59. at the end of chapters 19 and 39, readers are formally notified that they have reached the conclusion of a phase of pips expectations.

in the first expectation, pip lives a humble existence with his ill-tempered older sister and her strong but gentle husband, joe gargery. pip is satisfied with this life and his warm friends until he is hired by miss havisham and estella.from that time on, pip aspires to leave behind his simple life and be a gentleman. this life is suddenly turned upside down when he is visited by a london attorney, mr. jaggers

the second stage of pips expectations has pip in london, learning the details of being a gentlemen, having tutors, fine clothing, and joining cultured society. at the end of this stage, pip is introduced to his benefactor, again changing his world.

英文的读后感篇3

based on mark twains novel, the millionaire pound note takes an interesting satirical look at the hypocrisy stemming from class distinction in the 50s england. england is a country where class and wealth are given extreme significance, especially among the rich. the film shows the hypocrisy that existed among these people, how the rich are quick to change face when in an instant they find out that youre a man of wealth and how within the next moment they revert back to their condescending selves when all wealth is lost. interestingly, the millionaire also briefly looks at how the english perceived americans in that era. rich americans were weled as outsiders and the poor were quickly shunned away. the fact that hes an outsider either makes him more appealing or the plete opposite. the story sticks to the main theme by emphasizing on the hypocrisy of the upper class society but at the same time it also creates a balance that prevents the movie from being a mockery of the british society. the movie drags at some point but the love story appears at the right time and there is plenty of edy to keep one entertained. a charming gregory peck totally nails the part and the luminous jane griffiths is a treat. reginald beckwith, as pecks sidekick rock is amusing. the ending is a little predictable but the director does an overall good job by rounding it up and presenting his points.

英文的读后感篇4

pride and prejudice is the work of jane austen, a british woman writer. the scope of this work is only three or four families in a village, with elizabeth as the main character. the main plot is nothing more than the chat about marriage and property in the front of the fireplace and in the meeting of relatives and friends, the bee chase and butterfly chase in the market, church, dance, banquet and other occasions, and the love talk.

the arrogance of darcy and the prejudice of the heroine all have obvious class attribute. their frustrations in love are not due to their accidental misunderstanding, but because there is an inevitable gap between the two sides in different class status. elizabeth, as a middle-class common girl, only by virtue of the charm of her personality and her excellent quality, won the fame and fortune of the noble young master, and finally became a good couple with her. this is another copy of cinderellas story.

the same is true in life. only by putting down the arrogant attitude, throwing away the prejudiced vision, treating with empathy, and understanding each other through communication, can we know each other. like mr. darcy in the book, although the appearance gives the impression of arrogance, arrogance and superciliousness. but the heart is kind and sincere and willing to let go, its attitude of not stubborn is really appreciated.

英文的读后感篇5

" he sings a song of the younger world, which is the song of the pack." (chapter vii the sounding of the wild) when the last sentence vanished from my eyes, i can still perceive an echo of a song - a wild song, which knocks up my dizzy mind that always cheerfully sink into the so-called civilized world without questioning. wild, is no longer a symbol of the law of jungle but a headspring where streams out love, passion, bravery, loyalty, friendship, venture, competition and tolerance all these virtues can easily be found in the call of the wild.

jack london (1876-1916) is a worldwide renowned novelist. his stories successfully reflect the contradictory views of man’s nature and destiny in and against the wild, and his "fight to survive" notion has gained him and his works timeless popularity, particularly, the call of the wild

it tells a story of a gigantic dog, named buck, who is stolen from a rich and comfortable home and forced to learn to survive as an alaskan sled dog. buck, at first, is too savage for the company of man until he coincidently encounters his beloved master-kindhearted john thornton. finally, john’s incidental death breaks buck’s last tie to the man and drives him into his long-desired wild with his pack. in the story, buck and john simply adopt themselves to answer the call of the wild. when it comes to buck’s mind that one day he will eventually leave john- his master, all he wants to do is just to help him finish the gold-rush-trip. he " from then on, night and day, never put a halt, in desperation, he burst into long stretch of flight, did not to stay him (john)…" (chapter vii the sounding of the wild) buck wished to remember john’s image forever, he "for two days and nights never left camp, never let thornton out of his sight. he followed him about at his work, watched him while saw him into blankets at night and out of them in the morning…" (chapter vii) when i read these words i just could not hold my tears bursting. can a real man devote himself to loyalty and friendship in such a way? on the other hand, john thornton is not only a dog-lover but also a brave and venturous man. he is so straightforward and simple that makes him an accommodating man. once he firmly roots a goal into his heart, it seems that nothing could prevent him from accomplishing it except death. i do not know whether the persistence is the most vital element to make a man successful, but what i know is that you are not far away from success once you occupy it.

it is jack london who plunges me into the animated wild from the hustle-and-bustle and from desperate city. there, i merely cannot deny the attraction of buck’s bark, which enlightens me to pursue another lost half of the nature in mankind, and to dig out a true meaning of life. dare we imagine that london intentionally employs buck to set us a model with perfect characters (count barbarity out)? the answer is affirmed. we, as animals, are from the wild but shedding off more and more wild signs, which demonstrate us as the "uncivilized". however, who can fully guarantee that we have not overlooked some essential wild-endowed virtues? especially, nowadays, it seems more crucial for us to stop looking at the post-industrialized world and to ponder for a while. when cheats, betrayals, lies, lusts and crimes stuff a materialized society, whether london uses this novel to help himself escape the reality or warn the earthy people, to us, modern man, is all the same.() it appears horrible that in modern society many people are enthusiastically talking about how to build up "special relations" to the authority, deceiving and lying to each other.

to them life is a mask-wearing process rather than a hard work. every time, you browse webpages, scandals in politics, business, the entertainment circle and even on campus crowd into your eyes. oh, what is the essence of human beings? what is the civilization to us? do we need to look back at where we came from? is it good or bad for us to speak out what we think and to do what the consciences demand us to? are we wasting talents given by the mighty nature? be an honest, straightforward, warmhearted, emotional and responsible man or be a shrewd, cold hearted and astute hypocrite? while embracing the "civilized" rubbish, we are losing those good virtues, which are the calls of the wild. once we lose them, we are to lose ourselves, and we will get nowhere. i wish this dreadful thought is totally a fallacy, but, now, it is chilling me hard.

one day when i happen to stand on the top of a grand mountain to observe a boundless prairie enveloped by the sapphire firmament and combed by gusts of the rhythmical west wind, a morning sun sprinkles me her warmth and brilliance in a graceful way, however, at that moment, i am afraid that i cannot appreciate these beauties, i am a lost " civilized man" then.

英文的读后感篇6

there is a devil lives in our hearts. sometimes our happiness stems from others misfortune. this makes us feel shamed. every now and then i wonder whether there is a method that can remove the devil from our hearts. in this way, the evil part of me wont feel shamed, meanwhile, the good part of me wont get happiness from others misfortune. after reading this novella entitled "dr. jekyll and mr. hyde", i think its better to shut down this bad idea.

this novella is written by the famous scottish author, robert louis stevenson. it is about a london lawyer named john gabriel utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, dr. hey jekyll and the evil edward hyde.

dr. hey jekyll was a scientist who was always considered as a serious, hard-working doctor. behind this character, however, he was an active, fun-loving young man-about-town. he had spent most of his life trying to remove the devil from his heart which was not fitting for a man of his stature. after much thought, he finally decided to create a drug that could give each side of his character its own separate face and body. then, he bravely drank the drug and successfully transformed himself into the smaller, younger, cruel, remorseless, evil edward hyde. dr. jekyll enjoyed his secret very much--but not for ever after. as time went by, mr. hyde grew in power. after taking the drug repetitively, dr. jekyll no longer needed to use the drug to relief his devil.eventually, mr. hyde grew so strong that dr. jekyll had to rely on the drug to remain himself.he first injured a child in street, then beat sir danvers to death for no reason. realizing he would soon become hyde forever, dr. jekyll left behind a confession and commit suicide.

generally speaking, every man has two sides to his character. just like dr. jekyll was a serious, hard-working doctor which concealed a irresponsible man who pleasured around underneath. dr. jekyll had noticed it quiet well, but he should have known that a normal people could not be two people live uncomfortably together in the same body. it sounds more like "dual personalities". feeling complacent about his creation, dr. jekyll didnt notice that he was trapped. before the experiment, dr. jekyll was just a double-dealer. and after it, he became a person with dual personalities. each personality wanted to control the body. unfortunately, good didnt prevail over evil. dr. jekyll grew weak while mr. hyde grew powerful.

actually, the two sides of a person have well defined power and responsibility, mutual coordination and restraint. they know the appropriate time and situation to behave themselves. you can be serious at work with a character likes dr. jekyll and have your private life as crazy as you want. this is nothing to be ashamed of, but dr. jekyll didnt realize it at that time. during the one-month internship, i have noticed that there are a great numbers of teachers wear a double face. they treat students strictly, meanwhile, they are quite friendly with their collogues and parents of students. this makes their life much easier. everyone plays different roles in different situations. we neednt to shame about it. the double-dealers can always gain advantage from both sides and live well.

when dr. jekyll took the drug and devided into two person, this tragedy is waiting to happen. the two person are quite simply. dr. jekyll shared no effort to do good and mr. hyde committed all manner of evil. through the death of dr. jekyll/mr. hyde, the author tried to expound his point: if you cant rein in your devil, you would be punished at last.

in the unknown corner of peoples deepest heart, good coexists with evil. in the story of deers and wolves, people simply thought that deers could live better without wolves. as a matter of fact, deers could not live without wolves. they maintained an appropriate balance in the forest. but for the chasing of wolves, deers couldnt be strong and healthy. similarly, when separated, the good side of dr. jekyll became weaker and weaker. instead, the evil side of him became stronger and stronger without the restraint of the good side. but the evil side, mr. hyde couldnt live without dr. jekyll, because they shared a body. so when dr. jekyll committed suicide, mr. hyde dead, too.

it is too late for dr. jekyll to realize that having two characters is nothing to be ashamed of. but i learned a lot from this novella. there is a "jekyll" and a "hyde" in everybody. i will face up to my desires and try to strengthen heart for good to defeat the devil. nothing is difficult in the world for one who sets his mind to do it.
